Measuring Up: August 2013

A good subtitle for this post would be, "and then all of a sudden, the garden went BOOM!"  This month's garden total post has me feeling a little overwhelmed - I just don't even know where to start, so I think the best thing to do is to let the pictures tell the story of the August harvest...

It has been a month filled with variety:
And a month of having to improvise when the harvest is bigger than the bowl:
And a month of tomatoes.  Lots and lots of tomatoes:
And a month of records:
The third round of broccoli came in bigger and better than ever this month:
This month was so busy, the basil got a bit out of control:
Freezing and canning, and drying began in earnest this month:
It was a month where all the hard work suddenly felt worth it:
And a month filled with satisfaction and appreciation:
It was a month that started to make up for a slow start:
It was a good month.

  1. Those crinkly tomatoes look great. I bet they tasted marvellous too. I loved looking at all your produce - reminds me that all the work i'm doing now sowing seeds etc will eventually lead somewhere good.

    1. Thank you, Liz! The red ruffled tomatoes are Costoluto Genovese, and the purple ones are Purple Calabash - both varieties have been outstanding this year!
